Reliance MediaWorks’ BIG Cinemas is handling the US theatrical release and marketing for Tamil-language film Raavanan and its Telegu-dubbed version Villian.

Produced, written and directed by Mani Ratnam, the film stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. A.R. Rahman composed the music. In Hindi, its title was Raavan.

BIG plans a release on more than 40 screens across 30 cities in Tamil and Telegu across the US, making it one of the biggest releases for a South Indian film in US. The worldwide launch is on June 18.

Reliance MediaWorks CEO Anil Arjun said: “There is a vast audience for regional Indian Cinema outside of India and particularly in the USA. We are dedicated to bringing these quality regional Indian language films to new markets where there are audiences waiting to be entertained. Additionally by building our own international infrastructure of cinemas we are showing our commitment to these niche markets which we expect will deliver strong growth in the near future.”

BIG Cinemas US has 190 screens in 20 cities.
