Iron Man 2 will overtake the lifetime total of its 2008 predecessor this weekend as Paramount Pictures International anticipates a robust third weekend.

The action sequel stands at $206.2m and will have little trouble passing the original’s $214.2m final tally by Sunday.

However Robert Downey Jr and friends will face an onslaught from a very different kind of foe this weekend when Universal/UPI launches Robin Hood in more than 56 territories.

It also launched in France and a number of smaller markets on the same day and according to unconfirmed reports had grossed around $6m by the end of the first day.

Robin Hood opens this weekend in the UK, Australia, Germany, South Korea, Russia, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Taiwan, among dozens of others.

The Green Zone has grossed £33.8m to date and arrives in Japan this weekend.

Fox International opens the romantic comedy Date Night on $41.9m in several territories including France on May 12.

Fantastic Mr Fox has amassed $24.5m and opens in Germany on May 13, GentlemenBroncos in Spain on May 14, and Our Family Wedding in Mexico on May 14. Avatar stands at $1.98bn.
