Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired US rights to Stephen Gyllenhaal’s character-driven comedy Grassroots. Intandem represents international sales here in Cannes.

Jason Biggs, Joel David Moore, Lauren Ambrose, Cobie Smulders, Tom Arnold, Christopher McDonald and Cedric The Entertainer star in the story of a young man who enlists the help of an alternative news reporter to take down a city council member.

Gyllenhaal and Justin Rhodes wrote the screenplay and Peggy Rajski produced with Michael Huffington, Matthew R Brady, Brent Stiefel and Peggy Case.

Goldwyn has set a Jun 22 release. Goldwyn svp of acquisitions Peter Goldwyn and general counsel and vp of development Ian Puente negotiated the deal with Maren Olson of Traction Media and attorney Darin Frank on behalf of the filmmakers.
