Sony confirmed last night [Nov 1] that it had taken US rights to George Clooney’s upcoming political drama The Ides Of March.

Clooney will direct and is expected to take a small role in the story about a young press spokesman who falls prey to backroom politics, the treacherous manipulations of veteran operatives and the seduction of a young intern.

The project is based on Beau Willimon’s Browdway play FarragutNorth. Sony plans a December 2011 limited release.

Exclusive Media Group and newly launched Cross Creek Pictures will finance and is co-producing the political drama with Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smoke House Pictures and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way. Exclusive will commence international sales at AFM.
