Strand Releasing has acquired all US rights to Clio Barnard’s Tribeca entry The Arbor from Wavelength Pictures.

The film presents a portrait of the late playwright Andrea Dunbar, best known for Rita Sue And Bob Too, and won a best new documentary prize for Barnard at the New York-based festival earlier in the year.

The Arborf ocuses in particular on the playwright’s troubled relationship with her daughter Lorraine, who was ten years old when her mother died. Barnard re-introduces the daughter to Dunbar’s works.

The deal was done between Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing and John Flahive of Wavelength Pictures. Strand has set an April 2011 release.
