Tribeca Film has acquired North American rights for a 2014 release on David Mackenzie’s prison drama Starred Up. Independent represents international sales at the AFM.
Starred Up stars Jack O’Connell, Ben Mendelsohn and Rupert Friend in the story of a violent youngster transferred to the same prison as his estranged father.
Jonathan Asser wrote the screenplay and won Best British Newcomer Award at the 2013 BFI London Film Festival.
Fox Searchlight will release the film in the UK in spring 2014.

Feature is latest under film partnership between streamer and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin.
