The distributor announced on Monday [14] it had acquired Terence Nance’s An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty.

Variance will release the Sundance 2012 entry in theatres on Apr 12 and Cinema Guild will roll out on DVD and digital in late summer.

The film charts the relationship between the director and a young woman told through the examination of a single moment.

Nance produced the Media MVMT production alongside Andrew D Corkin and James Bartlett. Jay-Z, Wyatt Cenac, Dream Hampton and Joy Bryant are among the executive producers.

Variance also holds rights to Dave Grohl’s feature debut, the documentary Sound City, and will open it in theatres on Feb 1.

Dylan Marchetti negotiated the deal with Traction Media on behalf of the producers.
