Drea Clark has been appointed executive director of the Slamdance Film Festival, which next year runs from January 17-25 2008.

Clark has worked her way through the ranks since joining the festival as an intern in 1998 and will now manage all aspects of festival preparation and production and serve as chair of narrative feature competition programming.

Her duties include supervising the year-round direction and activities of Slamdance and relaunching the festival website with expanded film-maker resources and community section.

Slamdance co-founder Peter Baxter, who remains president, hailed Clark was as 'a natural leader, a favorite with staff members and film-makers and a real visionary'. Baxter added: 'She knows where we want Slamdance to go and how to get us there.'

'My vision for shaping our year-round programmes and services is centred on expanding the sense of camaraderie that evolves at the festival every year,' Clark said.

'I want to provide this family of talent we've amassed over the years with platforms to share their ideas, updates and insights, to ask for help, referrals and recommendations - to really take advantage of the network and community that Slamdance brings together.'

Clark served as festival producer for 2006-07 and prior to her time at the festival she was executive director of the Music Video Production Association (MVPA).
