New Line'shorror-thriller Final Destination 2 opened number one in Italy through Eagle Pictures at the weekend,grossing $524,377 from 248 screens.

The sequelscored a per-screen average of $2,114 and now has an international runningtotal of $39.4m, compared to the original's $59.2m.

When Final Destination opened in Italy in Aug 2000 it took$526,231 from 162 screens and went on to take $3.2m in a six-week run.

Elsewhere, Freddy Vs Jason opened in fourth place in the UK through Entertainment FilmDistributors, grossing $1.3m from 237 venues for an average of $5,334 per site.

It opened number one in Puerto Rico through World Films onan impressive $463,287 from 44 over four days, averaging $10,529.

The Lord OfThe Rings: The Two Towers added$66,947 on five outdoor screens through Warner Bros in Switzerland, raising itstotal there to just over $9m, some 11% higher than the final gross for TheFellowship Of The Ring.
