Julia Jentsch, lead actress in HansWeingartner's Cannes competition film The Edukators, has been cast asthe German resistance figure Sophie Scholl in Marc Rothemund's World War IIdrama Sophie Scholl - Die Letzten Tage (Sophie Scholl - The Last Days)which began shooting in Munich on June 12.

The screenplay for the World War II drama aboutthe White Rose resistance group was penned by Fred Breinersdoerfer and recallsthe events of February 17-22, 1943 from Sophie's perspective, charting herarrest with brother Hans (played by Fabian Hinrichs from Gun-Shy), theirinterrogation by the Gestapo, the show trial in Munich and their execution.

The co-production by Goldkind Film withBreinersdoerfer and Rothemund's company Broth Film is being backed bybroadcasters BR, SWR and arte as well as FFF Bayern, German Federal Film Board(FFA) and the State Minister for Culture & Media (BKM). X Verleih willdistribute the film in Germany in the first half of 2005.
