Last year's local blockbuster, Michael Steiner's My Name Is Eugen(Mein Name IstEugen) was named Best Film at the 2006 Swiss FilmAwards ceremony in Solothurn on Wednesday evening.

The jury headed by Oscar-winning film editor Pietro Scalia (JFK, Black Hawk Down) commented thatSteiner's family film had "brought a fresh breeze into the Swiss film landscape"with a narrative that was "at the same time heart warming and pleasantlyironic." Since its release last September, the film has attracted over500,000 admissions in the German-speaking part of Switzerlandalone and become the third most successful Swiss film of all time

Fernand Melgar'sEXIT, Das Recht Zu Sterben about the Swiss organisation for euthanasia wonBest Documentary and Peter Volkart's Terra Incognita won Best Short Film.

Best Supporting Role went to Swiss-born actress Marthe Keller for her performance of a mother sufferingfrom Alzheimer's in Laurent Negre's Fragile, while the trophy for Best LeadRole went to Carlos Leal for his portrayal of rapper Pacoin Samir's SnowWhite. Leal will be representing Switzerlandat the European Film Promotion's Shooting Stars showcase during Berlinale in February.

The jury awarded its Special Prize to FilmkollektivZurich for its concept and editing of the documentary Klingenhof.
