Eight film and TV projects to have shot in Colombia

Eligible international productions can access Law 1556’s mutually exclusive Colombia Film Fund (FFC) 40% and 20% cash rebates, or the CINA 35% transferable tax credit. Local productions can access Law 814 (aka ‘The Film Law’), offering support at every stage from development through promotion. Each entry lists the local production services partner along with the approved incentive.

52nd State (film)

New York-based production outfit Parts & Labor, which has credits including Robert Eggers’ The Witch, was in Bogota this year to film this Costa Rica-set crime thriller. Set in 2010 against the backdrop of the tech boom, an IT technician discovers his new employers are running a scam and he must work from within to bring down the criminal enterprise. Moises Arias leads the cast alongside Teresa Ruiz. Former Netflix head of product Todd S Yellin directs, and Netflix executive chairman Reed Hastings gets his first producer credit. 

Daughters Of Water (film)

Colombian filmmaker Jacques Toulemonde Vidal is preparing to shoot Daughters Of Water, mostly in Medellin and Spain. The project is a co-production between Colombia’s 64A and Lago Films, and Spain’s Calité Films and La Charito Films. Vidal co-wrote Ciro Guerra’s Embrace Of The Serpent and Cristina Gallego’s Birds Of Passage. 64A Films founder Diego F Ramirez showcased the synchronised swimming drama at San Sebastian’s Europe-Latin America co-production forum in September and is in the process of talking to buyers.

The Last Photograph (film)

After tentpoles including Man Of Steel and Justice League, Zack Snyder has taken the independent route with this drama about a former DEA agent who searches the South American mountains for his niece and nephew after their diplomat parents are murdered. Stuart Martin and Fra Fee star. Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller’s The Stone Quarry produces with Hollywood Gang Productions. The film is also shooting in Iceland and Los Angeles. 

One Hundred Years Of Solitude (season two) (TV)

Netflix has wrapped the second season of its adaptation of the acclaimed magical realism novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, debuting in early 2026. The upcoming episodes pick up the multi-generational story of the Buendia family, founders of the fictitious town of Macondo. Marleyda Soto and Claudio Cataño reprise their roles as Ursula Iguaran and Colonel Aureliano Buendia, and Colombia’s Laura Mora and Carlos Moreno are the directors. Production took place in Tolima, Boyaca, Cundinamarca and Magdalena. 

Palacio (TV)

Guatemala’s Jayro Busta­mante is among the directors of this Net­flix docu­drama about the M-19 guerrilla group’s storming of Bogota’s Palace of Justice in November 1985, presented through the eyes of the people involved. Natalia Reyes from Cannes 2018 Directors’ Fortnight selection Birds Of Passage and Terminator: Dark Fate stars. Reyes also appeared in Noviembre, an unrelated fictionalised account of the siege that premiered at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.

Sierra Madre (film)

Justin Chadwick’s thriller stars Kiefer Sutherland as the leader of an elite US military unit who attends a crewmate’s destination wedding and finds himself in a fight for survival when a cartel storms the village. Align is financing the project that Highland Film Group screened at TIFF. 

Susana And Elvira (film)

Production services expert Jaguar Bite makes its first foray into original production with a film version of the long-running series based on a popular blog in which two women discuss their relationships. Netflix will debut the film starring Manuela Gonzalez and Mabel Moreno, as the women travel to Santa Marta to plan the wedding of the year. Colombia’s Pulsar Studios is a co-producer.

White (film)

Montoo Bassi directs the story of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and his intervention in Colombia’s peace process. It charts his 2015 meetings with FARC guerrilla leaders at peace talks in Colombia and Cuba, which led to a unilateral ceasefire. It also tracks three young Colombians living through the violence. Production took place in Cali and Bogota. The cast includes Vikrant Massey, Dario Yazbek Bernal and Jaime Newball.
