International sales agent, mk2 Films
- A masters degree in international law and media law from La Sorbonne
- Joined TF1 Studio in 2020
After earning his law degree from Paris’s La Sorbonne, Bohanna opted to deviate from a legal career and enter the film industry, first as a sales intern at The Bureau Films and mk2 Films, then at TF1 Studio where he worked alongside veteran sales executive Sabine Chemaly. “International sales combines relationship-building, creative analysis and law, which sounded like a dream job,” he says of his decision.
Bohanna returned to mk2 in February 2021 at a tricky time for the industry — “right in the middle of lockdown” — but working on the sales team led by managing director Fionnuala Jamison, who he praises for “her remarkable instinct for identifying and supporting filmmakers on the international stage”, has taught Bohanna “the importance of understanding each market’s unique socio-cultural aspects”.
Titles he has worked on include Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person In The World, Céline Sciamma’s Petite Maman, Carla Simon’s Alcarràs and recent Sundance premiere The Thing With Feathers. His experience working on Justine Triet’s Anatomy Of A Fall, meanwhile, he describes as “unforgettable — a real journey from the script all the way to Cannes and the Oscars”.
While Bohanna says he is “very happy in international sales”, he hopes to pursue a more strategic role or shift towards acquisitions for distribution further down the line, particularly at a one-stop-shop media powerhouse like mk2, which is at Cannes this year with a whopping six films in Competition from across the globe.
“Working for a company that owns cinemas and has other diverse ventures, such as a magazine, a hotel and even a streaming service, all dedicated to cinema, is very stimulating,” he says.
