Acquisitions manager, Curzon

  • Studied at the UK’s National Film and Television School
  • Joined Curzon as acquisitions executive in 2021

“Start working at a cinema at a vertically integrated company, then get in at the first opportunity,” is Pesci’s advice for those trying to break into the industry. It is the path she followed with UK exhibitor-distributor Curzon, working customer-facing roles at the company’s Aldgate theatre after she moved to the UK from Turin to study programming and curation at the National Film and Television School.

Pesci started on the acquisitions team just before Curzon released Parasite in February 2020, becoming acquisitions executive in spring 2021 and acquisitions manager 18 months later. Throughout, the native Italian has worked closely with managing director Louisa Dent, who she praises for being an “insightful, generous” mentor.

Having worked on the acquisitions of Flow and La Chimera in recent years, Pesci enjoyed handling Kneecap from a financing stage, with the Irish-language project coming through the Curzon-backed Mother Tongues development initiative.

“We were involved in the early steps of the film, we gave feedback that was taken into account,” says Pesci, who would love to explore further development opportunities. “[Acquisitions professionals] sometimes don’t have much creative control over our films. To get that on Kneecap and contribute to the final result was a fun process.”
