Marissa Frobes

Agent, CAA Media Finance

  • Graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in English
  • Worked at Participant from 2015-18, primarily as David Linde’s executive assistant

After nine months as assistant to line producer Michael Sledd and then to Todd Haynes on the production of Dark Waters, Frobes joined CAA Media Finance as a co-ordinator in summer 2019 and was promoted in 2020. She takes pleasure in championing the work of visionary filmmakers like Brady Corbet, Mona Fastvold, India Donaldson and Jane Schoenbrun.

Frobes was part of the team that structured the US sale of The Brutalist to A24 on the eve of Venice Film Festival last year, and led sales on The Outrun to Sony Pictures Classics, Good One to Metrograph and Rebuilding to Bleecker Street. Frobes met Schoenbrun while selling their debut feature at Sundance, and now represents the filmmaker and is packaging the upcoming Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma. She has worked on upcoming films from Fastvold (Ann Lee) and the Zellner brothers (Alpha Gang).

“There’s a lot of good art and film going undistributed in the US, given the boom-or-bust marketplace,” says Frobes. “We need more distribution companies with young staff, and more innovation.”

Buying and selling happens all year, although in-person festivals and markets are valuable. “When you’re able to use the market to drive a competitive situation, there’s nothing better,” she says.

“I care about supporting boundary-pushing and voice-driven work getting made and seen,” says the executive, who cites former Participant CEO David Linde as a guiding light. “He taught me to always be efficient but generous with my time.”
