Spearheading production on Sharon Horgan’s first theatrical feature screenplay — contemporary drama 25 Scenes starring Jude Law — is a marker of career growth for Katie Sinclair. She joined Law’s Riff Raff Entertainment as head of development in 2022, was promoted to head of film and TV last year, and is also “a producer in my own right” within the company.
“I can be more involved in the producing, strategy and packaging side of matchmaking talent across our projects, and getting them over the line,” explains Sinclair. She will also produce Fireworks Every Night, having given writer-director India Donaldson the novel by Beth Raymer on which the film is based. Sinclair is producing it alongside Backrooms producer Kori Adelson for Chernin, which is financing; and is also producing the new feature from On Falling’s Laura Carreira, which is with BBC Film.
Sinclair says she wrote “200 letters to every studio and production company”, and got her start as a production and development intern at Lionsgate in 2012, followed by production roles at Disney and BBC Studios.
Working under Rose Garnett and Eva Yates at BBC Film honed her “highly organised” nature. “I was producing their diaries and their lives,” says Sinclair. “I realised that alongside my editorial instincts, I had a drive to work across all aspects of producing.”
As development executive for more than three years at Blueprint Pictures, Sinclair earned credits on films including Bafta winner The Banshees Of Inisherin, Bifa best film All Of Us Strangers, and Emma. starring Anya Taylor-Joy.
“I learned how to develop projects that feel commercial, but not in a way that diminishes the filmmaker’s voice,” says Sinclair. Riff Raff credits include Justin Kurzel’s 2024 feature The Order and Netflix miniseries Black Rabbit, the latter netting seven Emmy nominations this year.
An Inside Pictures graduate and a mentor at Creative Access and Arts Emergency, Sinclair also produces short films through her own Tannahill Productions and Messy Films. “I would love to tell authored stories for wide audiences by elevating filmmakers and cross-pollinating relationships,” she says. “I’m open to the roles that will take me to do that.”
