The North American premiere of Marcel Rasquin’s Hermano has been selected as the opening night gala presentation at the 14th Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival on August 19.

Rasquin wrote the screenplay with Rohan Jones about two football players from the Venezuelan slums who get the chance to try for the city’s top team. Eliu Armas, Fernando Moreno, Gonzalo Cubero and Marcela Giron star.

“This is a classic story of the paths two young men raised as brothers take, as they face what men they will ultimately become,” the festival’s executive director Marlene Dermer said.

The festival is scheduled to run from August 19-25.
