US distributor Film Movement has acquired North American rights to Adrian Biniez’s Uruguayan comedy Gigante.

The film, which opens this autumn, won the Alfred Bauer Award and Best Debut Film at Berlin and tied for the Grand Jury Prize Silver Bear.

Horacio Camandule stars as a lonely supermarket security guard who develops an obsession with a cleaner. Leonor Svarcas also stars.

Film Movement’s president Adley Gartenstein negotiated the deal with Brigitte Suarez of The Match Factory.

“Hands-down the most charming film in competition at this year’s Berlinale, Gigante is yet another example of a burgeoning Uruguayan cinema that keeps surprising us with its unique humour and sensibility,” Gartenstein said.
