Kurt Rieder, who has headed UIP’s Asian operations for the past six years, has joined theatrical consultancy Artisan Gateway as managing director, based in Singapore.

Founded by Rance Pow, Artisan Gateway provides consultancy services to companies looking to expand their theatrical business in Asia and has clients including the US studios, AMC Entertainment and Entertainment Properties Trust. The company is based in Shanghai and has offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Rieder was appointed as UIP’s vice president, sales and marketing, Asia, in 2003 and before that was managing director of Singapore-based distributor-exhibitor Golden Village. He has also held senior posts at Thai exhibitor EGV, Village Cinemas in Argentina and Warner Bros Singapore.

UIP’s regional manager Han Seng Lim is taking over supervision of the Asian region following Rieder’s departure.

UIP, previously a joint venture between Universal and Paramount, remains in place in several smaller Asian territories, although in bigger territories, such as China, Korea and Japan, the two studios have established their own operations.
