Fox International has acquired a slew of Asian rights to WongKar-wai's Cannes hit 2046, building on a relationship established by the recent partnershipbetween the director and Fox Searchlight Pictures.

The distributor picked uprights in South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, thePhilippines, Indonesia and India.

"We are very proud to be distributing Wong Kar Wai's highly anticipatedfilm 2046 and tocontinue our growing relationship with them," Fox's senior vice president ofAsia/Pacific Bob Girard said in a statement.

2046dwells on the elusive nature of love and involves an author's conceit about amysterious train that transports people to the year 2046. Tony Leung, MaggieCheung and Zhang Ziyi star.

"I am delighted to extend the great partnership already forgedwith Fox," Wong said. "The acquisition of 2046 by Fox in Asia offers an excellentopportunity for us to showcase our film through Fox/Asia's network."

Wong reached an agreementwith Fox Searchlight last autumn to develop at least three English languagepictures that Searchlight and Block 2 Films will co-finance and distribute.
