Fox Studios Australia has reduced admission prices to its Backlot entertainment area in an effort to increase visitor numbers. The move represents a partial merger of the Backlot with the adjacent Bent Street cinema and restaurant precinct.

From mid-November adult prices to various attractions, which include the Titanic experience and the Lights Camera Chaos stage show, will be A$24.95 instead of A$39.95. Children's and concession prices have been discounted by A$10 to A$14.95 and A$19.95 respectively, and there will also be options that include retail, dining and live entertainment.

"These are important changes which follow from our experience in operating the site for a year and follow from a detailed review by the shareholders in the light of extensive customer feedback, research and analysis of the business," said Fox Studios Australia chief executive Kim Williams.

The move comes four months after the studios' joint venture partner Lend Lease Corporation told the Australian Stock Exchange that it would not be meeting its financial targets due to the under-performance of the Backlot and would make a provision of A$80m after tax to cover these losses.

The third part of the two-year-old development is the professional studios which hosted The Matrix, MI:2, Moulin Rouge and Star Wars: Episode 2. Booked in for next year is director Phillip Noyce's The Quiet American. There are also 60 independent businesses on the site.
