Freestyle Releasing has acquired North American rights to Fathom Studios' CG animated film Delgo and will release in theatres on December 12.
Delgo takes place in a fantasy world where an adventurous teenager and his friends rally to save their planet from internecine warfare. Fathom Studios president Marc F Adler co-directed with and Jason Maurer and the all-star voice cast includes Freddie Prinze Jr, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Anne Bancroft, Val Kilmer, Malcolm McDowell, Michael Clarke Duncan, Eric Idle, Sally Kellerman and Burt Reynolds.
'We are delighted to be involved with such a high quality movie with wide commercial appeal,' Freestyle Releasing co-president Susan Jackson said. 'Delgo was selected by all of the top animated film festivals and recently won Best Animated Feature Of 2008 at Anima Mundi, one of the largest animation festivals in the world.'
Adler hinted at working again with Freestyle on a sequel if attendances lived up to test scores.
Alliance will handle the Canadian release of Delgo and other Freestyle Releasing titles under its extended distribution partnership announced earlier today.
