While BVI's Brother Bear held on to the top spot for the fifth week in a row based on admissions, it was a different matter as far as box-office takings were concerned. The animation feature was pushed down to second position by the new entry of UIP's The Dawn Of The Dead which posted over $1m from 347 screens in its first four days of release.

Meanwhile, the first release by 3L Filmverleih of the Charlize Theron vehicle Monster scored the weekend's highest screen average with $5,120 from 99 screens to gross just over $500,000.

3L was launched by the German home entertainment company e-m-s new media which had acquired all of the German rights to Patty Jenkins' film and sold the free TV rights to public broadcaster ZDF on the night of the Oscar ceremony this year.
