Marc Rothemund's Silver Bear winner Sophie Scholl - TheFinal Days has been selected as Germany's entry to enter the race for theForeign Language Film Oscar.

Announcing its decision, the jury responsible for selectingthe country's Oscar candidate described Sophie Scholl as "a film ofgreat emotional concentration, carried by outstanding acting achievements. Itssignificance lies in the timeless subject matter of selfless resistance andopposition against all forms of suppression."

The production by Neue Goldkind Filmproduktion and BrothFilm had its world premiere at the Berlinale in February and has since beenshown at over 20 film festivals worldwide.

Over 1.2m admissions have been posted by X Verleih in itsGerman theatrical release, and the film will be launched in the US nextFebruary by Zeitgeist who also handled Caroline Link's Oscar-winning NowhereIn Africa.
