Terry Gilliam is to team up with Brokeback Mountain co-screenwriter and Pulitzer Prize-winner Larry McMurtry on AnythingFor Billy, a new feature inspired by wild west anti-hero, Billy The Kid.

Gilliam is attached to direct the new project, which isadapted from McMurtry's best-selling novel. Anything For Billyis about Ben Sippy, an unhappily married dimenovelist from Philadelphia whoheads out west in search of adventure, trying to carve out a new life as atrain robber. McMurtry himself is writing thescreenplay.

Despite the critical and commercial success enjoyed by Brokeback Mountain, Gilliam anticipates thatfinancing Anything ForBilly will be an uphill struggle. 'Westerns are really hard to finance, inthe current climate', he said. 'A lot of westerns being made (today) are losingwhat westerns are about,' he added.

Anything for Billy project is one of several Gilliam projects onthe boil. He still plans to revive his dream project The Man Who Killed Don Quixote once producer Jeremy Thomas finallywins back the rights to the script. Gilliam is developing Good Omens and he may work with Dave Mckean(Mirrormask)on another long-gestating project, DefectiveDetective.
