BeverlyHills-based Gold Circle hashired Belgian filmmaker Yann Samuellto direct the remake of South Korean romantic comedy hit My Sassy Girl.

Jae-Young Kwak's 2001 filmwas a huge success in South Korea and the English-language versionis being fast tracked for an autumn shoot.

Theproject marks Gold Circle's firstcollaboration with Maverick Films and its fourth with Vertigo Entertainmentafter Falling Angel, Smoke and In Utero.

My Sassy Girl centreson a Midwestern man whose world is turned upside-down when he falls for areckless free spirit. Casting will be announced in due course.

GoldCircle chief Paul Brooks will produce with Vertigo's Roy Lee and MaverickFilms' Mark Morgan. Scott Niemeyer and Norm Waittwill serve as executive producers for Gold Circle alongside Vertigo's DougDavison, Maverick's Guy Oseary, Milton Kim and Jay Polstein.

GoldCircle's vice president of production Zak Kadison brought the project into the company and willshepherd through production as co-producer with Maverick's Brent Emery.

Samuell directed the 2004 romance Love Me If You Dare and is represented by UTA'sStuart Manashil.

"Yann is a tremendous talent and we feel honoured to havehis first English-language film," Brooks said. "Tonally his firstmovie felt like a great fit for My SassyGirl and he could not have had any more enthusiasm for the material."
