Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired US rights to Uncommon Productions'
American Violet starring Alfre Woodard and newcomer Nicole Beharie
following its world premiere at Telluride.

Director and producer Tim Disney and his screenwriter and Uncommon
Productions partner Bill Haney are meeting with international buyers
at AFM.

Samuel Goldwyn plans a March release for the story of a 24-year-old
African-American single mother in Texas who fights for her name after
she is wrongly accused on drugs charges. Michael O'Keefe, Charles
Dutton, Will Patton and Tim Blake Nelson round out the cast.

'We feel privileged to be releasing such a chilling yet, inspired
story of courage and self respect,' Samuel Goldwyn Films president
Meyer Gottlieb said. 'Audiences will find that it has the emotional
impact of Norma Rae and Erin Brockovich.'

Vice president of acquisitions Peter Goldwyn negotiated the deal with
executive producer Peter Newman and M J Peckos for Uncommon
Productions.
