Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King continued its domination of the Hong Kong box office in its third week, grossing $734,789 from 47 screens for a cumulative total of $4.06m. Distributed by Deltamac, the film has overtaken local blockbuster Infernal Affairs III, now in its fourth week, as the top-grossing film over the Christmas period.

US openers, including CJ Entertainment's The Cat In The Hat, struggled to make much headway against the Christmas releases, which in addition to Infernal Affairs III included three other local productions. Applause Pictures' Golden Chicken II is the sequel to last year's comedy hit which follows the history of Hong Kong as seen through the eyes of a prostitute. The sequel, also starring Sandra Ng, looks into Hong Kong's future and depicts recent events such as the SARS outbreak and July 1 mass protest.

Anna In Kung-Fu Land, produced by Universe Entertainment, is an action comedy starring Canto-pop stars Ekin Cheng and Miriam Yeung. Sound Of Colours, directed by Joe Ma and produced by Wong Kar-wai's Block 2 Pictures, is based on an illustrated novel by popular Taiwanese author Jimmy Liao. Also starring Yeung, along with Tony Leung Chiu-wai, it tells the story of a blind girl who falls in love with her divorced boss.
