IMAX Corp has signed a dealto open an IMAX theatre in one of Indiana-based Showplace Cinemas' multiplexesin Evansville, Indiana.

The opening is expected totake place in November at a specific location to be announced shortly and willemploy the company's unique MPX theatre system.

The MPX technology allowsmultiplex operators to instal an IMAX theatre to an existing multiplex orretrofit two existing multiplex auditoriums into an IMAX theatre.

Speaking to delegates atShoWest yesterday (22) IMAX Corp co-chairman and co-chief executive officerRichard Gelfond said the company had signed contracts for 25 new theatresaround the world in the past year, including the installation of 10 MPX theatreconversion systems.

Gelfond also trumpeted thegrowing success of IMAX's DMR screen size conversion technology for screeningHollywood releases, revealing that showings of The Matrix Reloaded and TheMatrix Revolutions added $15m and $12m respectively to those pictures'grosses.

IMAX Corp is currentlyco-producing the 3D documentary Magnificent Desolation with Tom Hanks'Playtone Productions. The picture was conceived by Hanks and is inspired by thestories of the astronauts who walked on the Moon.
