Amazon-owned The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has bought global film-maker and film festival resource Withoutabox.

Withoutabox was founded in 2000 by David Straus and Joe Neulight and enables film-makers to submit their work online to festivals and provides festival organisers with tools to manage and promote their events online.

'For eight years, Withoutabox has enabled film-makers and festivals to reach the widest audience possible,' Withoutabox CEO Straus said. 'Now, they will be able to connect directly with the 50m film lovers who visit IMDb each month.'

'Our mission has always been to provide film lovers around the world with the most comprehensive movie, TV, and celebrity related information,' IMDb vice president Colin Bryar said.

'Working with Withoutabox, we can offer our viewers with even more great film related content.'

Withoutabox will continue to function as a stand-alone operation based in the Los Angeles area.
