India's government has approved the introduction of the Cable TV Act which will regulate all programme content and advertising on cable channels.
Among other things, the act aims to curb obscenity on Indian cable television and requires all cable operators to carry at least three channels from state broadcaster Doordarshan.
All national and international broadcasters uplinking from India or abroad will have to comply with the act.
