Oscar-winning composerMaurice Jarre is to receive an honorary award at the Flanders InternationalFilm Festival-Ghent's 3rd Annual World Soundtrack Awards ceremony.

Jarre, who won three AcademyAwards for Lawrence Of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago and A Passage To India, will collect the Joseph Plateau Award inrecognition of his distinctive achievements in film.

The ceremony is scheduled totake place in Ghent, Belgium, on Oct 12, when organisers will also hand outawards for Best Original Soundtrack, Best Original Song, Best Composer andDiscovery of the Year.

Jarre's other scoresinclude Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey, A Walk in the Clouds and Ghost.

'The core of thefestival will, as always, be the film competition,' Jacques Dubrulle,secretary-general of the festival, said in a statement.

'A maximum of 15 verydifferent films will be selected for the International Competition.'

Jeanne Moreau heads up theinternational jury alongside directors Ahmed Imamovic and Gaston Kabore andcomposers Stephen Warbeck and Daan Stuyven.

The festival runs from Oct7-18.
