Jim Amos has been promoted to president of Sony Pictures Releasing to fill the slot vacated by Rory Bruer, who was recently promoted to president of worldwide distribution for Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution.

Amos previously served as Sony Pictures' division manager and senior vice president of distribution for the Eastern division.

He inherits a 2009 slate that includes Angels & Demons, The Taking Of Pelham 123, Julie & Julia, The Pink Panther 2, The International and 2012.

Later this month Amos, who will continue to report to Bruer, will celebrate 25 years at the studio. He joined in January 1984 as a Columbia Pictures sales trainee in the Boston Branch before taking on roles as a sales representative in the San Francisco and Los Angeles branches.

In 1987 he served as sales manager in the Detroit and Cleveland branches and the following year became Tri-Star Pictures' district manager for the Western division. In 1989 he was named Sony Pictures' district manager for the Eastern division, a role he held until 1994, when he was promoted to senior vice president of distribution overseeing the eastern division.
