New York-based Mozgofilms has hired Briton John Irvin to direct the Bosnian conflict action film The Filthy War.

Filming is scheduled to begin in spring on location and studios in Hungary with a yet-to-be announced international star in the lead.

The story centres on Eduardo, a footloose journalist who organises an international volunteer platoon to defend a besieged village from a Serb nationalist warlord.

Vinnie Jones has been cast as the warlord.

Irvin's credits include Hamburger Hill and When Trumpets Fade.
