Kate Hudson has joined Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Marianne Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren on the cast of The Weinstein Company's Broadway musical adaptation Nine.

Rob Marshall is directing the story, loosely based on Federico Fellini's 1963 classic 8 1/2, as a harried film director who balances the numerous women in his life. Filming is scheduled to start in the UK on October 10.

Hudson will portray an American fashion journalist who encounters Day-Lewis' director during the course of his work. The role of Saraghina, a prostitute from the director's past, is yet to be cast.

Michael Tolkin and the late Anthony Minghella adapted the screenplay and Marshall will choreograph the project alongside his LUCAMAR Productions partner John DeLuca.

DeLuca and Marshall are producing with Marc Platt while Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston serve as executive producers.

TWC co-president of production Michael Cole will oversee production for TWC with executive vice president of business affairs and production Rob Scheidlinger and senior vice president of production Kelly Carmichael.

Hudson is represented by the Endeavor Agency and attorney Marcy Morris.
