German film fund KC Medien and Munich-based film finance packager CineArtists are backing Oliver Stone's next feature Beyond Borders, which will be partly shot on location in Europe.

The film, about medical organisation Medecins Sans Frontieres, is the third project to receive backing from KC Medien following its change of strategy away from mainly US-based co-productions towards large-scale European films.

Other European projects receiving backing from the fund are Jean-Jacques Annaud's $90.6m (DM180m) Stalingrad drama Enemy At The Gates and UK director Chris Newby's $5m (DM10m) horror film Teeth. The Annuad project is shooting on location in Brandenburg and at the Babelsberg Studios from April while Teeth, starring Jim Broadbent, is shooting at Babelsberg and in Baden-Wuerrtemberg.

KC Medien and CineArtists are set to announce several other co-productions, all geared towards the international marketplace and featuring strong German and European talent or production elements.

Oliver Stone's latest film Any Given Sunday is being shown in competition at the Berlin Film Festival on Feb 20.
