Portland-based animation studio Laika has hired former Lucasfilm and Hanna-Barbera executive Alan Keith as vice president of business operations and chief financial officer and promoted Travis Knight to vice president of animation.

Keith has more than 20 years of finance experience in the studio and non-Hollywood arenas and will lead the expansion of Laika's business operations as it continues to grow its pipeline of animated features, television commercials, music videos, broadcast graphics, and short films.

He most recently served two years as corporate finance director at biotech and life sciences company Genentech, and before that held senior management roles at Lucasfilm and Hanna-Barbera Entertainment Company.

Knight will continue many of the responsibilities he took on in his role as head of animation over the past two years.

He will continue to be one of the lead animators on the upcoming stop-motion 3D film Coraline, which will be released by Focus Features in 2008. Knight joined Laika in its former incarnation as Vinton Studios in 1998.
