Koch Lorber Films has acquired US rights from Big Beach to Ramin Bahrani's Chop Shop.

The company has set a theatrical release at New York's Film Forum for February 2008 followed by DVD roll-out. Earlier this year Koch Lorber released Bahrani's previous film Man Push Cart on DVD this year.

Chop Shop played at Cannes, Toronto, AFI FEST and London film festivals this year and follows the efforts of a 12-year-old boy in Queens, New York, as he tries to make a better life for himself and his older sister. Alejandro Polanco and Isamar Gonzales star.

'In only a few short years, Ramin has proven to be one of his generation's most original new voices,' Lorber said. 'Following the storytelling success of Man Push Cart, Chop Shop, which received universal acclaim at the world's most prestigious film festivals, is certain to strike an emotional chord with audiences.'

Koch Lorber Films president Richard Lorber negotiated the deal with Cinetic Media's Debra Fisher and Sarah Lash on behalf of Big Beach.

Kock Lorber's releases include Blame It On Fidel, Lagerfeld Confidential and U-Carmen.
