Leomax Entertainment has picked up North American rights from Sweden's AB Svensk Filmindustri to the Norwegian psychological horror title Cold Prey.

Leomax' first acquisition will be released in the US and Canada through Anchor Bay Entertainment via Leomax's genre label Indigomotion.

Roar Uthaug makes his feature directorial debut on the tale of college friends whose snowboarding trip takes a turn for the worse when they take shelter in an abandoned ski lodge.

Cold Prey premiered at Slamdance 2007 and has since screened at San Francisco, Seattle and Montreal, among other festivals.

Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Rolf Kristian Larsen, Tomas Alf Larsen and Viktoria Winge star. Thomas Moldestad wrote the screenplay and Magne Lyngner and Martin Sundland produced. Einbinder negotiated the deal with AB Svensk's Ann-Kristin Westerberg.

Leomax is headed by Ingo Vollkammer and Scott Einbinder and launched in February 2007 with multi-million dollar backing from Zurich-based parent company Leomax AG.

The company has secured a multi-picture co-financing and distribution arrangement with Starz Home Entertainment for both the production and acquisition of films.

'Our primary game plan is to finance and produce motion pictures for the global marketplace, but when a commercially viable film such as Cold Prey comes along we will jump at the chance to acquire and market it for select territories,' Vollkammer said.

Leomax is currently filming Walled In, which stars Mischa Barton, Deborah Kara Unger and Cameron Bright and is being sold overseas by QED International.
