Lionsgate has picked up North American rights to Transporter 3 in which Jason Statham will reprise his action role as the tenacious former Special Forces operative turned delivery man Chev Chelios.

The Transporter films, which launched in 2002, have to date grossed more than $130m worldwide and close to $75m in North America, where 20th Century Fox was the previous distributor.

Lionsgate also released the other Jason Statham action franchise, Crank, in the US.

Olivier Megaton directs the third installment from a script by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. EuropaCorp, TF1 Films Productions, Grive Productions and Apipoulai Production are collaborating in association with Current Entertainment.

Transporter 3 also stars Robert Knepper from the hit TV series Prison Break and returning cast member Francois Berleand. Besson is producing for EuropaCorp.

Principal photography wrapped in early May and Lionsgate plans a November 26 release. Maple Films will distribute in Canada.

Head of acquisitions and co-productions Jason Constantine, vice president of acquisitions Eda Kowan and executive vice president of legal and business affairs, acquisitions and co-productions Wendy Jaffe brokered the deal with EuropaCorp's Pierre-Ange Le Pogam.
