British actor Dexter Fletcher is to make his directorial debut with a gritty family drama starring Charlie Creed- Miles and Jason Flemyng, with David Morrissey and Mark Strong also due to make appearances.

The as-yet-untitled feature is about a man trying to reconnect with his family after leaving prison, and is based on a story idea by Fletcher, who is most famous for his role in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. Other acting credits include RocknRolla and Stardust. The screenplay has been written by Danny King.

Shooting is due to commence in September, on location in the London borough of Newham. Locations will include an empty tower block which will double for the council estate where the film is set.

Sam Tromans is producing the film, which is being privately financed, for her UK based company Arena Productions. Her credits include the 2009 thriller Dead Man Running and Kidulthood director Menhaj Huda’s latest feature, Everywhere And Nowhere, which is currently shooting in London.

Tromans told Screen: “It’s a low-budget film, but Dexter is pulling in some of his buddies from Lock, Stock and all the films he has worked on over the years. We have an amazing cast, and Dexter is really inspirational. He’s even managed to get Jamie Oliver to do the food for the shoot!”
