Mary StuartMasterson will make her feature directorial debut on drama The Cake Eaters starringKristen Stewart and Aaron Stanford.

The 57th &Irving Productions project is scheduled to begin filming this summer in the US;it centres on a prodigal son who returns to his smalltown homestead aftertrying to make his fortune in the big city.

Jayce Bartokwrote the screenplay and will play the lead. Sorkin plays his brother who hasfallen in love with a seriously ill girl (Stewart).

57th & IrvingProductions president Elisa Pugliese and Masterson are producing with the 7thFloor's Jesse Scolaro, Allen Bain and Darren Goldberg. Both companies are basedin New York City.

"I amthrilled to have a filmmaker as passionate and talented as Mary Stuart at thehelm of this film," Pugliese said. "Her heart and soul are a perfectmatch for Jayce's wonderful gem of a script."

"With Aaronand Kristen on board as well, I couldn't think of two better-suited youngactors to take on Jayce's unforgettable characters," Scolaro added.

Mastersonpreviously directed the telepic The Other Side for Showtime. She and Bartok arerepresented by David Lewis of Don Buchwald & Associates.

Stewart is represented by Ken Kaplan at Gersh, andStanford is represented by Endeavor's Bonnie Bernstein.
