Odeon and Sky have announced The Oxford Murders, from cult director Alex de la Iglesia and starring Elijah Wood and John Hurt, as the second release under their new joint venture Odeon Sky Filmworks.Based on Guillermo Martinez's award winning novel, Oxford Murders sees Hurt and Wood star alongside each other as student and professor. The duo join forces to try and stop a number of murders, which are mysteriously linked by mathematical symbols.Odeon Sky Filmworks was set up in 2006 by broadcaster Sky and exhibitor Odeon, allowing them to act as a UK based film distributor, signing up titles directly from filmmakers. Its' first film to be signed, the award-winning Australian comedy Kenny, will be released on September.On this latest Filmworks project, Sky will retain all UK TV rights - and will also make Oxford Murders available to Sky viewers across its broadband download service - Sky Anytime on PC, as well as Sky Box Office, before its UK television debut on Sky Movies Premiere. Oxford Murders is being produced by Tornasol Films, Estudios Picasso, Oxford Crimes and La Fabrique de Films. It brings together a film-making team that have collaborated on many projects. GM
