Hong Kong producer-distributor will also introduce $6m action thriller Wind Blast at the upcoming AFM.

Hong Kong’s Media Asia has picked up world rights excluding Singapore and Malaysia to Singaporean action thriller Kidnapper, directed by Kelvin Tong.

The $2m film stars Christopher Lee as a struggling taxi driver who attempts to rescue his son when he is abducted. Malaysia’s top radio DJ Jack Lim also stars.

Singapore’s Scorpio East Pictures co-financed the film with Malaysia’s RAM Entertainment. Tong is one of Singapore’s leading filmmakers with hits such as horror film The Maid and cop thriller Rule Number One.

Media Asia will also be introducing Gao Qunshu’s action thriller Wind Blast at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). The $6m film revolves around a hired killer on the run in China who sets out on a trek across the Gobi Desert with his pregnant girlfriend.

Starring Xia Yu (In The Heat Of The Sun) and Charlie Young (Seven Swords), the film is financed by Beijing-based Yahuan Media Investments. Francis Ng, Yu Nan, Duan Yihong and Wu Jing also star. Media Asia has worldwide rights excluding China.
