MGM Worldwide Television Group is in talks to launch a movie channel in Germany, according to Financial Times Deutschland.

Simon Sutton, MGM Worldwide TV's senior vice president, international pay & free television, said in an interview that negotiations with the Kirch group had recently stalled and new talks are underway with Deutsche Telekom and Herbert Kloiber's Telemuenchen.

MGM already operates 10 joint venture channels outside the US with partners including France's TPS, Japan's Star Channel, Israel's Tel-Ad, Australia's Movie Network Channels and Brazil's Telecine. Earlier this year it launched a channel in India in partnership with local broadcaster Zee Telefilms.
