MK2 has acquired French rights to Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank from ContentFilm International.

The film will screen in competition in Cannes.

Arnold’s second feature, following her 2006 Cannes jury prize winner Red Road, stars Michael Fassbender and newcomer Katie Jarvis in the story of a 15-year-old girl whose life is turned upside-down when her mother brings home a new boyfriend.

Kierston Wareing, Harry Treadaway and 12-year-old Rebecca Griffiths in her film debut round out the key cast.

ContentFilm International’s president Jamie Carmichael brokered the deal with MK2’s Jean-Francois Deveau. ContentFilm is selling worldwide rights.

Kees Kasander and Nick Laws produced while Paul Trijbits and Christine Langan served as executive producers alongside David Thompson for BBC Films.

Fish Tank was shot entirely in the UK and is a BBC Films and UK Film Council production in association with Limelight and Kees Kasander.
