Wolfgang Peterson's The Perfect Storm will close the Moscow International Film Festival (July 19-29) which will also boast world premieres of Life As A Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease, directed by Krzysztof Zanussi, and Gleb Panfilov's The Romanovs -The Imperial Family.

The festival is becoming an annual event for the first time in its 43-year history from this year and is also launching a market focusing on European and Russian product.

Theo Angelopolos has been confirmed as chairman of the jury. Special programme sections include the Forum of CIS and Baltic filmmakers; New Films (films produced in Russia between1999-2000); Unknown Uzbek Films and a retrospective of Boris Barnet's films. There will be special gala screenings of restored copies of Erich von Stroheim's Greed, Orson Welles' Touch Of Evil and Sergei Bondarchuk's War And Peace.
