Gray Hofmeyr's comedy Mr Bones 2: Back From The Past has broken all non-holiday opening box office records for South African films, earning over $0.6 million, making it the most successful South African film opening ever.

The opening out performed previous record holders Mr. Bones 1, Mama Jack and the 2008 blockbuster releases Quantum Of Solace, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Hancock, Kung Fu Panda, Iron Man, Dark Knight and Mamma Mia! The Movie.

There is speculation that Mr Bones 2: Back From The Past could out perform the record $3.2m box office of Mr. Bones 1 and has a shot at sinking Titanic's South African box office record of over $3.8 million.

Producer Anant Singh said, 'Whilst reviewers have been overly critical of Mr Bones 2: Back From The Past , we are thrilled that the film has been vindicated by the audience who have responded so enthusiastically to it. This phenomenal performance of Mr. Bones2 at the box office this weekend further entrenches Leon Schuster's position as South Africa's Number One Box Office Star.'

Mr Bones 2: Back From The Past is a Videovision Entertainment production in association with the SABC, Distant Horizon and Mr Bones (Pty) Ltd. and released through United International Pictures (South Africa).

Produced by Anant Singh and Helena Spring and directed by Gray Hofmeyr, the film is executive produced by Sudhir Pragjee and Sanjeev Singh with screenplay by Leon Schuster and Gray Hofmeyr.

Mr Bones 2: Back From The Past stars Leon Schuster, Leeanda Reddy, Tongayi Chirisa and Kaseran Pillay.
