Projects by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Hlynur Pálmason and Tatiana Huezo are among 14 selected for the first edition of the Fondazione Prada Film Fund.
The annual €1.5m fund, unveiled at Cannes last year, is for projects in their development, production, and post-production phases, with no restrictions on geography or genre. It is headed by former Cannes Directors’ Fortnight director Paolo Moretti.
The line-up includes Jenjira’s Magnificent Dream, the latest from Thai Palme d’Or winner Weerasethakul, about a Thai widow who travels to Sri Lanka to scatter her husband’s ashes. Tilda Swinton is among the cast.
Godland and The Love That Remains director Hlynur Pálmason has been selected for On Land And Sea. It follows two families, one Danish and one Icelandic, forced to leave their homes at the end of the 19th century.
Huezo, whose previous films include Prayers For The Stolen and The Echo, is picked for Galerna, about a pair of filmmakers tasked with finding “natural actors” for a science-fiction film in remote regions of Mexico.
Among the 14 projects, four are in development, nine are in production, and one is in post-production. Six are directed by women and eight by men, with two debut features.
Entries for the 2026 edition of the fund will open in June 2026.
