Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth! starring Pedro Pascal will close the 27th annual Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF, October 15-22), with the filmmaker in attendance.
Pascal plays a gifted former child cello prodigy who flees a Chicago orchestra and returns to Los Angeles after 20 years away to record Hollywood scores and resolve unfinished family business.
Olivia Wilde also stars and the cast includes Eva Victor, Alexa Swinton, Kaya Ralls, Erik Griffin, JoBeth Williams, and Margarita Levieva, with Hank Azaria and Will Arnett. Gilroy directed Michael Clayton, Duplicity, and The Bourne Legacy. His screenwriting credits include the first three Bourne films and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and he was creator and showrunner on the Disney+ series Andor.
“We couldn’t have picked a better way to celebrate 27 years of Newport than closing with a filmmaker as exciting as Tony Gilroy,” said Gregg Schwenk, CEO and executive director of NBFF. “This film has a deeply personal story about what music demands of the people who live inside it — and having Tony and Jade here in person for Q&A is exactly the kind of up-close experience that makes Newport unlike any other festival in the country.”
As previously announced, NBFF will screen Ink, Wild Horse Nine, La Bola Negra, Paper Tiger, A Talent for Murder, Josephine, and The Only Living Pickpocket In New York.
Behemoth! receives its world premiere as the Centerpiece selection of the 64th New York Film Festival on October 2. Searchlight Pictures will release it in the US on December 4.
